Retro Pastel Nails - Tutorial

20140405-211654.jpg
Hello everyone,
Thought I'd show you how to achieve this really pretty Retro Pastel Nails! They're all Ciaté mini colours since I find the brushes easy to use, especially when painting a section of the nails!
20140405-212122.jpg
First I applied a base coat (Lori Greiner's Orly rubberised base coat - I have reviewed this so go have a peak at that!) Then I applied only one coat of Ciaté's Fit For A Queen, I only did one coat since it's really pigmented anyway and you're only going to see a thin line of the silver, plus it saves a lot more time!
20140405-212237.jpg
When the silver is bone dry, I then used thin nail tape to section up the nail, after that I painted the desired sections with each colour. This was a bit tricky, don't worry about getting the paint on your skin as you can just clean it up when it's all done!
20140405-212535.jpg
Paint two coats of the varnish and once it is fully dry slowly and carefully peel off all the tape. Then apply the top coat, I used Nails Inc Kensington Caviar topcoat. Once that's dry, tidy around the nails et voila! To tidy around the nails I used Leighton Denny's Precision Corrector which comes with a lovely little brush for extra help!! This is a really good product and you don't have to keep buying the nibs for nail corrector pens!

The nail colours from Ciaté are;
Pink - Hoopla
Green - Apple & Custard
Blue - Chinchilla
Yellow - Loop The Loop

Yummy Homemade Salted Caramel Brownies

Hello Everyone,
I hope you're all have a wonderful Sunday! My friend recommended the recipe to me so I thought I'd give it a whirl! It's super yummy and I definitely recommend it!!
Image

The ingredients are;
  • 200g unsalted butter (plus extra for greasing the tray)
  • 200g plain chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
  • 125g light muscovado sugar
  • 125g caster sugar
  • 4 medium free-range eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1tbs cocoa powder
  • 125g plain flour
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes
  • 126g bag of Cadbury's Nibbles (or any chocolate caramel sweets)

Now how to create these beauties!
  • First, preheat the oven to 170°C/fan 150°C and grease you tray, they recommend using a 20cm/20cm tray but I just used what I had, which was about 28cm/18cm and it was fine!
  • Melt your chocolate and butter in a microwave until fully heated, do 30 second intervals so you don't burn the chocolate. Then allow the cool.
Image

  • In a large mixing bowl throw in the eggs, sugars and vanilla extract. Mix with an electric whisk until blended and forms a nice light colour.
ImageImage
  • Then add the melted chocolate to the mixture and again whisk away.
  • After that, sift in the flour and cocoa powder and mix it in. It should create quite a thick mixture.
  • Once you have achieved this, fold in the sea salt.
Image
Image
  • Chop up half of the Caramel Nibbles and mix them in. Have a few to snack on whilst you go, why not!
Image
  • Pour the mixture into the tray and then press the whole nibbles into the top of the mixture.
Image

  • Pop it into the oven for about 25-30 minutes. When you take it out, make sure the top is firm, don't worry about it being gooey inside as it will solidify as it sets! Leave to cool for about 20 minutes then tuck in!! Have it will a nice cuppa or some ice-cream and dust it with some icing sugar!

Enjoy!! Let me know how you find them!

A Rather Large Spring Makeup Haul!

Image

So, it seems in that I've purchased a large amount of make up! Now, these were most definitely not bought at once, it is a compilation of makeup that I've bought over the past few weeks. I'll include some reviews for those products I've had long enough to gather some form of opinion on! Hope you enjoy!
Image
Boots had their fabulous but bank breaking 3 for 2 deal on, so I thought I'd make the most of it and buy the L'Oreal Lumi Magique range. I only found out a couple weeks ago that L'Oreal owned Georgio Armani makeup and other high brands, which made me want to check it out. The name Lumi Magique instantly made me want to choose this range since my skin seems to be pretty dull at the moment, so I felt like it would be a good pick-me-up for my skin. And I was delighted by the results. The foundation is amazing, really illuminating and moisturising, glowy finish. I highly recommend this foundation! The Primer is also really nice and illuminating too and works wonders paired with the foundation. It gives a medium coverage and is generally amazing. The highlighter pen is additionally fabulous. It really reminds me of YSL's Touche Eclat, I use it under my eyes and it really brightens up my face. I seriously really really really recommend the highlighting pen if you don't want to get the whole set and if you don't want to spend the money on the Touch Eclat (I totally sympathise with you).

Lumi Magique Foundation (shade Rose Pearl) - £10.99*, Primer - £9.99*, Highligher Pen (Shade 2 Medium) - £8.49* (*From Boots)

Next up are the powders, I've literally waited forever to purchase an Illamasqua product and I finally did! It was on sale for £11 (oringinaly £18) on Asos, so I had to take the leap! It's in shade 'Lover', it's a beautiful coral-y peach shade and is super pigmented so you need to very light handed with this! I also finally bought Sleek's Contour kit, which I have searched everywhere for ages and couldn't find it in any of my local Superdrugs, however, I was in Boots and there was a Sleek section! And boom, there is was! I didn't think twice and got it straight away!! Like the Illamasqua blusher, the bronzer is amazingly pigmented. The highlighter is also lovely and subtle. I got it for £6.79 in Light.

Time for lips! Continuing on the L'Oreal trend, I was looking for a nice orange shade, since that seems to be the colour of the season and it's on all the catwalks. I was reading up on their L'Extraordinaire by Colour Riche liquid lipsticks and they've had so many amazing reviews. They reminded me of YSL's Glossy Stains, so I thought I'd give it a whurl! This is shade 204 'Tangerine Sonate'. It's really lovely and moisturising, not too sticky either. It's pretty long lasting too, but would need to touch up after eating and drinking, so not quite a durable as YSL glossy stain, but you're paying under half the price! It was £8.99 from Boots. Next I was searching for a nice casual nude that I could just quickly pop on, so I went straight for Kate Moss' Rimmel collection. I've always been a fan of this range so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. It is shade 26 and was £5.49. Really lovely and moisturising. Last but by no means least is the Sephora lipstick in shade 20 for €14.50. It reminded me of MAC's Riri Woo and it's so long lasting!! Highly recommend all of these lip products!

Finally Kiko! I have been so desperate to pop into one of these shops but never had the time! I was in Italy this weekend so I thought what better time to go into Kiko store!! I was so surprised at how amazingly priced everything was!! I could have easily bought so much more! So I bought their Radiant Touch highlighting Stick in 100 for €8.50, Eyeshadow sticks in 25 and 39 for €4.90 each, Lip pencil in 705 for €2.50 and Smart Lipstick in 906 for €3.90! I've always wanted to test out some eyeshadow sticks, and for that price I thought why not, first impressions are that they're really creamy so they should be nice and easy to blend! I thought the Lipstick was a similar dupe for MACs Shy Girl, it's really moisturising and glossy!

That was a lot of makeup! I hope you enjoyed and perhaps feel like going and testing them out for yourselves! I hope you're having a lovely Spring!

Lots of love,

Pamper Night!

20140322-210921.jpg
Hello everyone!
So tonight I'm having a pamper night, I've finally finished University for the spring term and thought I'd give myself a little pick-me-up before I face the mountain of essays assigned for this Easter holiday!
So what better way to have a pamper evening than buying a couple of Lush products! So I went ahead and bought this beautiful bath ballistic bath bomb in 'Think Pink' and BB Seaweed Facemask. The bath bomb is amazing! It's smells incredible!!! Quite sweet floral sent and fizzes like crazy when you put it in the bath, whilst it does so little confetti hearts pop out and the water turns a beautiful pink colour! the Facemask smells just as amazing! Quite exfoliating which is lovely and really creamy! The only downside is that there's clumps of seaweed in the mask, which is quite awkward to apply. But nonetheless the mask is wonderful! Since you have to store it in the fridge, the mask is quite cold when applying which is really nice and refreshing!
20140322-211107.jpg
So I applied my mask, lit a few Yankee Candles and got into my fab pink bath! Lush indeed!! Whilst I was chilling, I put Ratatouille on, which was just the icing on the cake!!
I think I was in there was about an hour and came out like a human prune! But a damn good selling human prune!!
20140322-212320.jpg
I do highly recommend both lush products, you can never really go wrong with any Lush products! I could literally buy the whole shop!! They're both friendly on the skin, the face mask left my skin feeling super soft!
After finally getting out of the bath, I cleansed my face with Simple's Pore Minimising Toning Cleanser and moisturised with Neutrogena's Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit oil-free moisturiser. This moisturiser is amazing in my opinion because it's really moisturising whist maintaining an oil balance. I find it really hard to choice facial moisturisers because the ones for 'teenage skin' are never ever moisturising enough for my dry skin, whist the nice and fully moisturising ones that are not made to reduce breakouts, cause blemishes! So, if you're in a similar predicament, I highly recommend it!! I then moisturised my whole body with Dove's Intense Moisturising Lotion for Extra Dry Skin, which I've mentioned in my July Favourites last year, and it's still amazing!
Next, to complete the pamper eve, it was time to paint the nails! I opted for Nails Inc 'The Boltons' So so so close to my last name! I really love this colour, it's like a rich velvet red!
20140322-222423.jpg
Additionally you should always let yourself have a little self indulgence and have a lovely pamper evening!
I hope you are all having an amazing weekend! Happy pampering!
Lots of love,
Alice xx

Smashbox 'Vibrant Violet' Lipstick

Hello Everyone,
I hope you're all well! I recently bought this gorgeous Smashbox lipstick and I am so happy with it! I thought I'd venture out of my beloved MAC lipsticks for a change and try something new! I have heard a lot about Smashbox and wanted to give it a go myself. I decided to go for this purple colour, I have literally wanted to try out purple for a while and tested so many lipsticks but none of them were quite the purple I wanted/could pull off! Yet, this purple is just perfect!

What I like about this purple is that it isn't too vibrant or light, yet it is not too plum-y...The formula to the lipstick is also a winner, it is super moisturising and goes on really well. The shape of the lipstick is similar to MAC, thus is easy to apply if you don't have a lip brush in hand. Additionally, it is pretty long lasting, especially for a dark lipstick, which usually leaves a wonderful dark outline one the lips after eating and drinking etc.!
1601559_10152200076509524_1073171074_n
I think this shade is perfect for saying goodbye to the Autumn/Winter season and hello to Spring! You are able to get Smashbox products from most Boots stores or online. This lipstick was £15.50, which is a bit painful for the student bank account, but you have to pay for good products I suppose!! I will definitely be trying and buying some more Smashbox products.
Just purchased my London Fashion Weekend so I'm super excited!! I really need to blog more fashion posts, so a couple of them will be on their way!
